ORDINARY PUBLIC CONSISTORY

VATICAN CITY - At 10:00 a.m. today, in the Consistory Hall of the Vatican Apostolic Palace, during the celebration of midmorning prayers, Pope Francis held an ordinary public consistory for the canonization of Blesseds

  • André de Soveral and Ambrósio Francisco Ferro, priests of the archdiocese of Natal, Mateus Moreira, layperson of the archdiocese of Natal, along with 27 companions, martyrs;

  • Cristóbal, Antonio and Juan, children of the diocese of Tlaxcala, martyrs;

  • MANUEL MÍGUEZ GONZÁLEZ (in religion: FAUSTINO OF THE INCARNATION), professed priest of the Order of Poor Clerics Regular of the Mother of God of the Pious Schools (Piarists) and founder of the Congregation of the Calasanzian Sisters, Daughters of the Divine Shepherdess;

  • LUCA ANTONIO FALCONE (in religion: ANGELO FROM ACRI), professed priest of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin; and,

  • FRANCISCO and JACINTA MARTO, children.

In the course of the consistory, the Holy Father decreed that these Blesseds will be inscribed in the catalog of saints on the following dates: Saturday, 13 May 2017, Francisco and Jacinta Marto; Sunday, 15 October 2017, André de Soveral, Ambrósio Francisco Ferro, Mateus Moreira and 27 Companions; Cristóbal, Antonio and Juan; Faustino Míguez González; and, Angelo from Acri .

-  the heroic virtues of the Servant of God OCTAVIO ORTIZ ARRIETA, professed priest of the Salesian Society of Don Bosco and bishop of Chachapoyas; born on 19 April 1879 in Lima (Peru) and died on 01 March 1958 in Chachapoyas, Amazonas (Peru);

- the heroic virtues of the Servant of God ANTONIO PROVOLO, priest of the diocese of Verona; founder of the Society of Mary for the Education of the Deaf-Mute and the Congregation of Mary for the Education of the Deaf-Mute; born on 17 February 1801 in Verona (Italy) and died there on 04 November 1842;
